What We're Playing: Thimbleweed Overwatch

More On: What we're playing

The Free Fire movie is a 90-minute battle royale directly inspired by Counter-Strike's Assault level, at least according to director Ben Wheatley. Although Nintendo Switch data isn't included yet, The Motley Fool looks at just who, sales-wise, is winning this console generation. And Shaquille O'Neal, Lupe Fiasco, Reggie Bush, and Natalie Eva Marie play against each other on April 28 in the "eLeague Street Fighter V Invitational Celebrity Showdown," competing to raise a combined $45,000 for charities of their choice.

What are you playing?

Beyond the usual Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, I'll probably spend a good chunk of the weekend playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Sure, I already have Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, but Balloon Battles. Enough said. Outside of that, I'll probably fire up I Am Setsuna and continue my trek through that as I haven't done much with it since launch and I really want to get back into it.

I might take a break from Zelda this week to get back into DOOM. Heck, I might even give the multiplayer another try. Other than that, I might do some more retrogaming and try to finish up Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered. I'll also jump headfirst into my RetroPie build, if Amazon stops taking its sweet time and actually ships the parts I ordered.

My school semester is ending this weekend, praise be, so I'll have nothing but time. I'm still incredibly into the Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed mod, so I imagine that's what I'll play the most. Aside from that, I'm trying again to get into Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I know everyone loves it, but it's never clicked with me. I'm hoping I'll have another Witcher 3 situation where I force myself to play until I like it. Hey...maybe I should play The Witcher 3 instead.

I have about four seconds of free time right now, but during them I'm going to play (don't laugh) some Nancy Drew games. My rationale is throwback; I used to play them as a little kid, so when I discovered that my girlfriend still had her old copies from over a decade ago stashed away, we just had to relive our childhoods a little bit. It's a nightmare getting them installed on my laptop, partially because the DVD drive just stopped ejecting when I told it to, but hey, it's worth it to see the smile on her face as we relive something we both played years and years ago separately—but this time together. If I have time, there might also be some GTA V involved, since of course that's a logical followup to Nancy Drew, because I'd like to maybe not be the world's worst driver forever. That all depends on how much pent-up rage I develop over the next week.

I'm heading down I-5 to San Francisco for a week with the extended family. So my time is going to be all Airbnb, a mobile game or two, and remembering how to pump my own gas (they don't let us near the stuff in Oregon). Gaming on a phone isn't my thing. But I'll break out Pokemon GO with my seven-year-old and see what we can catch on Haight & Ashbury. Then go and swipe left and right through the Tinder-baked kingdom opera of Reigns. Until vacay hits, though, I'll tap out my overdue review for Maniac Mansion throwback, Thimbleweed Park.

This weekend will probably bring more Dragon Quest VIII and Battlefront II. I beat Half-Life 2: Lost Coast in about 10 minutes, and boy was that strange. I guess it was some sort extra mission back when it was released, but it was fun to revisit the game. I guess now I'll have to play Episode One and Episode Two to really get on the Half-Life 3 hype train. Last weekend I discovered two new things in Battlefront II. The first is that I kind of suck at it, which is a surprise because I consider myself the best video game player of all time. But seriously, it was a great time revisiting that game, it still holds up, and is a competent shooter. The other new thing that I have discovered (although it's not technically new, nor was I the first one to discover it) is that there's this awesome game mode called XL. In it, the faction sizes are greatly expanded and the battles become more chaotic. Many a Mace Windu died on Geonosis. I'll probably be playing as much of that as I can the next few weeks, along with the rest of my small assortment of PC games until I get back home to my sweet consoles.

I took a break from Persona 5 last weekend to play some Dragon Quest Heroes II, so I'll be trying to get plenty of P5 time in this weekend. I'm still trying to get that Platinum trophy for NieR: Automata, and I recently picked up Wonder Boy on the Nintendo Switch. Oh, and Blizzard totally got me to play Heroes of the Storm this weekend so I can unlock some Overwatch skins because I'm a sucker for stuff like that.
