System Shock remake coming to PS4 in 2018

More On: System Shock Remastered

Hey, I didn't play the original System Shock either. When it came out, I think I was playing nothing but SimCity 2000 and Warcraft for the entirety of 1994. Come to think of it, I was probably still milking the original DOOM from the previous year, too, which had come out around Christmas time. I guess I just never circled back around to System Shock.

Not to worry. You can lose the guilt, now that the System Shock remake is circling back around to us on PlayStation 4, the developers confirmed on PlayStation Blog. After 20 years, Nightdive Studios is rebuilding it from the ground up.

We'll see what this seminal sci-fi horror did in helping to establish first-person shooters. And we'll finally know what people are talking about when they post "SHODAN" on message boards. This is purportedly the game that inspired other games like BioShock and Dead Space.

System Shock is a ways off. It'll be sometime in Q1 of 2018. The developers just wanted to make it known that people are clamoring for a PS4 version, so they're getting a PS4 version. Here's some pre-alpha footage to whet your appetite for Citadel Station, the bad guy AI SHODAN, and passcodes written in blood on the walls. Oh, and if the game firmly has your attention, here's two more minutes of pre-alpha gameplay from four months ago.
