The DisplayPort on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 has issues with the HTC Vive link box

The link box on the HTC Vive allows you to plug it to your computer's video card via an HDMI cable or DisplayPort connect (Number 4 in the picture below). For those of us who have their computers plugged into the TV or monitor via HDMI, the Display Port connection might be the only way to connect the Vive.

Unfortunately for those who have NVIDIA's latest video cards, the GeForce GTX 1070 or GeForce GTX 1080, this might present an issue. Tom's Hardware has found out that the DisplayPort on the newest NVIDIA cards won't work with the Vive if connected this way to the link box. Strange considering this worked with other cards in the past, but it seems the newest cards makes it impossible to use.

Yes, you could get an adapter from DisplayPort to HDMI to get it to work, but that shouldn't be needed. People spending $400+ dollars on the video card shouldn't have to fix the problem this way.

There's no word from NVIDIA yet and if this would be fixable via an update, but we'll keep an eye on this and post any updates should they come about.
