Breached isn't your typical adventure game, I can tell from the trailer alone. Sure, I dig the glitch aesthetics and lonely sci-fi vibe, but the in-game computer work made me do a double take. The design is clean and sharp, the puzzles look smart, and the dialogue text could pay off in dividends along the way.
Stop me if you've heard this one, but in Breached, you wake up from cryogenic sleep with no idea what's happened around you. You're in the desert, there's been an accident, and it'll take multiple ~2-hour playthroughs to piece everything together. You pilot drones around to scavenge materials, collect the eight days' worth of precious oxygen around the place, and then... And then who knows? Therein lies the mystery.
At an introductory price of $6.99 (heck, there's even 10 percent off that on Steam right now) it's not like Breached is trying to steal any AAA thunder. It's just creating a unique experience in the indie space, and I think it can do just that.
Breached launched on June 22 and can be found on Steam.
You awaken from cryogenic hibernation. Your shelter is damaged. Your surroundings have crumbled to ruin. Repair the shelter, scavenge the environment, and face the truth.
You awaken as Corus Valott, long lost in cryogenic slumber, to find your shelter damaged by unknown circumstances. The land and settlements around you have crumbled to ruin, broken buildings and jagged shards all that remains. Confused and isolated, you're compelled to repair the shelter, explore the ruins and scavenge your surroundings, in hopes of uncovering – or perhaps avoiding – the uncomfortable truth of what has transpired.
The game is scheduled for release on Steam and other digital distributors on June 22.
Breached blends a range of genres and gameplay elements, including:
Guide Corus through his journal and pilot his mind. Explore previous entries by linking tags, helping Corus decipher his thoughts.
The environment has many stories to tell. Pilot drones to scavenge deserted locations, but beware of anomalies.
Combine materials you've scavenged to repair your shelter and maximize fuel generation to aid in your survival.
You have enough oxygen to last 8 days. Choose your actions carefully or risk suffocation.
