Yakuza 0 is coming Stateside

Released late last year to strong sales in Japan, Yakuza 0 is making its way to the West in early 2017 courtesy of Sega. As you might have inferred from the title Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the long-running open-world series about honorable criminals involved in Japan's organized crime underworld. This game will focus on series protagonists Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima, before they were big names in the Yakuza and were still making a reputation for themselves. While Yakuza 0 was released on the PS3 and PS4 in Japan, only the PS4 version will be localized for the West. As a bonus to go along with this announcement, Yakuza 5 is currently 25% off on the Playstation Store.

I've wanted to really get into the Yakuza series for a while now, but Sega makes it rather difficult. Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 are all available on the PS3, but the HD remake of the first two games on the PS2 remains unlocalized. I could always grab Yakuza 1 and 2 for the PS2, but those ports have notoriously bad translations. Hopefully Yakuza 0 will fill in some of the backstory I'm missing.

Help Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima Become Legend in Yakuza 0
Plus, European Release of Yakuza 0 Officially Confirmed; Yakuza 5 Sale in North America 
 
The characters Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima sprang to life in video games all the way back in 2005, but we got to experience their lives in the midst of their inglorious Yakuza careers, even seeing what life was like after getting out of the organization. 
 
But now, with Yakuza 0, players get to step into the sartorially immaculate shoes of Kiryu and Majima *before* they became the Dragon and the Mad Dog (respectively). And when the game launches, you'll get to find out just how bad things can get for a Yakuza foot soldier. 
 
We announced this game back in December at the PlayStation Experience, and though there was some confusion back then, we can finally confirm that Yakuza 0 is headed to Europe as well, as both retail and digital releases! We are currently targeting a simultaneous release in both territories. Here's an amazing .gif straight from Yakuza 0 to commemorate the occasion!
