Sony Looking to Crown the Next King of (SingStar) Pop

Back in the day, Charlie Sinhaseni used to destroy everyone in the dorms at SingStar with his punishingly nasal -- yet pitch-perfect -- singing voice.  Not only that, he learned all the words to REM's "It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)."  Admit it, you only know the chorus, yourself.  Well, Sony's announced the next iteration in the PS2 series with SingStar Pop.  If Charlie hadn't run off to work for William Henry Gates (that's Mr. Microsoft, if you're nasty) then he'd have the opportunity to school me with songs from The Fray, All-American Rejects, Rihanna, Gorillaz, and plenty, plenty more.

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today that SingStarTM Pop, the latest installment in the SingStarTM franchise, will launch April 3, 2007 exclusively for the PlayStationâ2 computer entertainment system.  Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s London Studio, SingStar Pop is the follow-up to SingStar™ Rocks and is PlayStation 2’s newest interactive singing experience featuring real songs and music videos from original artists.  

 

This time around PlayStation fans will find more of their favorite songs from current chart-topping stars and pop legends including James Blunt, U2, Natasha Bedingfield, Franz Ferdinand, The Clash and more.

 

SingStar Pop will be available both as a standalone disc and packaged with two high-quality SingStar USB microphones.

SingStar Pop also is compatible with the EyeToy™ USB Camera, so players can not only watch themselves performing in the limelight, but also playback those golden moments again and again! Whether dreaming of their own solo performance or enjoying a good time with friends and family, players can headline the game in single-player mode or break loose with several multiplayer modes.  An ideal game to keep the party going, a group of players can hop on the mic with multiplayer options including cooperative Duet Mode, one-on-one Battle Mode and the team-based Pass-the-Mic. And as an added feature for SingStar fans, players can easily expand their song library by accessing the song list from SingStar Rocks! while playing SingStar Pop, and vice versa, via the quick disc swap feature.
