Looks like the band is back together: Rock Band 4 announced

More On: Rock Band 4

We all had a feeling that this news was coming sooner or later, especially with Rock Band 3 resuming its DLC releases after a long period offline. This morning Harmonix announced that Rock Band 4 is headed to both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year.

A lot of the specifics have yet to be announced, like release date and track lineups. What we do know however is that the game will support the last gen peripherals which means that it is time to dust off those old guitars and drums from the PS3 and 360 versions of the game. The game will be released as a standalone title (game only) and full-band bundles with guitar, mic, and new wireless drums. The new versions of the instruments that are being created for the game are coming from Mad Catz, so quality is obviously not going to be an issue (based on their recent track records).

Harmonix has built the game on a completely new engine in order to deliver the best experience possible. Plus, perhaps the best news of all, the game will support ALL DLC from the previous games. This means that your huge music collections that you pieced together through Rock Band 1, 2, and 3 will be available in Rock Band 4 at no additional cost to you. You can bet that we'll be hearing a lot more about the new game with E3 2015 just around the corner. Until then, check out a new behind-the-scenes video that accompanied the announcement of the game.
