As we previously reported, Dead Rising Watchtower is coming exclusively to Sony's Crackle streaming service on March 27th. Now we have our first look at the feature-length movie and it's looking a little different than typical zombie fare these days.
Comparisons to AMC's Walking Dead are inevitable, but Watchtower looks like it's going for the absurdist, black comedy angle. This makes sense, as the Dead Rising games have always been on the goofy side and this approach sets it apart from the drama focus in AMC's show. Watchtower looks to be firmly established in the pulp roots of zombie fiction.
I'm not sure that I'm the target audience, as I've seen enough campy gore-fests to last me a lifetime, but Watchtower looks like it's at least being faithful to the style of the game series, so fans should stay optimistic about this one.
