Lords of the Fallen developer comments (again) on Dark Souls comparisons

Tomasz Gop, executive producer of Lords of the Fallen, has once again commented on the constant comparisons to Dark Souls, although when that's all anyone says about your game, I suppose it's hard to avoid commenting on it.

Here's what he had to say:

If someone tells you, "this place feels like your parents' house," you can't tell them it's not true, even if you don't feel that way at all. I guess, what I mean is, no matter how much we see Lords as a game of its own, if someone says it feels "totally like Souls" to him/her, I can only acknowledge that.

I haven't played Lords of the Fallen, but I have watched lots of footage of it, and I will be honest and say the only reason I am interested is because of the comparison to Dark Souls. I also totally understand that, as a creator, you don't want your creation to be so widely perceived through the lens of another creation; I imagine it would be really frustrating for nobody to take your work at face value. BUT, I think it's kind of ridiculous to think people won't compare the two, because Lords of the Fallen looks a whole lot like Dark Souls.

There's nothing wrong with that, and in fact I think it's great. Dark Souls lore-master and fanbase favorite VaatiVidya said something in a video about Lords of the Fallen that I thought was a very good thought and something people should take into account when thinking about Lords of the Fallen. He said that instead of a Souls clone, it was instead the first sign of a new genre of gaming that has been brought about by Dark Souls. The Souls series really is like no other, and if it really is the root of a new genre of action/adventure/RPGs with an emphasis on weighty, responsive combat, I welcome any additions we can get. Even if Lords of the Fallen isn't as good as the Souls series (but let's face it, what is?) I think it's a great step in the right direction of the future of a potential new flavor of gaming.
