What We're Playing: Mountain Clockwork Empires Edition

by: Randy -
More On: What we're playing

Humble Bundle kicked off its 24-hour Humble Flash Bundles with $66 worth of rhythm games. If you spent one second on each planet, it would take 5 billion years to visit each one in No Man's Sky. And that one-dollar game called Mountain where you get to stare at a mountain is now on Steam.

What are you playing this weekend?

A good chunk of my weekend will be spent playing Concursion in preparation for a review. The best way I can describe it is a mash-up of various video game genres...in the same stage. The demo gives a good example of this as you'll basically play a platformer, a shmup, and a ninja-style hack and slasher all in the single stage the demo gives. It's actually pretty fun so far.

I'm slowly making my way through Dragon Age: Origins. I'm also on a Star Trek kick of sorts so I'm replaying Bridge Commander. It's old and a little clunky, but it's closer than anything else to getting an eighth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

No need to mention that I will continue exploring the world of Diablo 3 in search of my complete Shadow of the Colossus armor set. Nor the fact that I am going to spend some time channeling my inner pinball wizard with the Guardians of the Galaxy pinball table from Zen Studios.

This week is the first weekend in many months where I don't have to worry about buying a home, selling a home, moving out of a home, or taking care of a home, so I'm going to finally get a chance to sit down and play The Last of Us, Counterspy, and maybe a few other games that have been gathering digital dust.

Well, I'm out, guys! It's been fun. But I'm apparently playing Mountain now. And I think the only point of Mountain is to climb to its cloudy, antigaming apex and meditate on the fact that I've actually been staring at a screensaver for 15-minute sretches. Also, I'll take another stealthy stab at Dishonored, a game so universally adored that it's made me wonder what my problem is, trying to figure out why it never clicked with me. Though I realize I'm—wait a sec, guys, I think my Mountain just said something strangely...lacking in profundity. I'd better keep watching for...something. To. Happen?

I'm spending what I'm sure will be the first of many hours on Clockwork Empires this week—I love me some cosmic horror wrapped in the mock severity of Victorian society. I've been slacking on my playthrough of the Second Quest of The Legend of Zelda, so I'll either catch up on that, or slack off even more by starting my first playthrough of Skyward Sword. One of the two.

Matt Mirkovich, staff writer, @Stillmywords
While I fight the urges to go get a PS4 solely to get PT, I'll be tearing at the layers of Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed, and Tales of Xillia 2 showed up in the mail, so I'll be checking that out. I also caught a video about Ridiculous Fishing and decided to plunk down on that instead of a random drink this week.

With some more support coming for the Oculus Rift, I'm going to dive back into Half-Life 2 so I can explore the world in a fully immersive 3D experience. I'll also go play a few quick rounds of Diablo 3 as I try and farm for more organs to create the new Hellfire Amulet that will be coming out in the 2.1 patch soon.
