What We're Playing: Hearthstone the Show Edition

More On: What we're playing

Now that Facebook forked over a few million, ZeniMax Media wants a piece of that succulent Oculus Rift pie. (I guess the settlement cash ran out from suing Mojang over the word "Scrolls" back in 2012.) Poet Kenneth Goldsmith is on a crowd-sourced mission to print out the entire internet. And the Danish government just made a 1:1 recreation of the entire country of Denmark in Minecraft [update: someone hacked in and defaced it].

What are you playing this weekend?

This week, I kind of got myself bogged down in reviews and previews. It's completely my fault, as I kept accepting them, so I have no one to blame but myself. Currently, I'm working on writing up previews of Shadowrun Online via Steam Early Access, as well as a Mega Man-inspired game called Echoes of Eridu that's in the early alpha stage. If you haven't been able to figure it out through my various posts and such, I'm basically into anything Mega Man or anything that even resembles the blue bomber, so a game inspired by Mega Man is right up my alley. As for reviews, I have a couple of indie games lined up: Full Bore and Vertical Drop Heroes 3D. Beyond all of that, I am slowly finding time for personal gaming...by which I mean I got bit by the Skyrim bug again. Haven't even bought the expansions yet, but I still have a lot to work on in the core game—even though I finished the main story last year. I'm also thinking of starting a video series where I check out every spell in the game and give my opinions on each. Should be fun. Mostly. Anyone but me think that the expert level destruction spells are almost not worth it?

Finally getting around to The Last of Us and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Why I'm giving Assassin’s Creed another shot, I'll never know.

I'm finishing up my review for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so that will take up most of my weekend gaming time. I also might get back into the Resistance series, as I finally got around to starting that last year and I still haven't managed to finish the first game. I hope Resistance 2 and 3 are better, because Resistance: Fall of Man is pretty bland and by the numbers, and it hasn't aged well at all.

This weekend I am heading back to Pandora as I boot up Borderlands 2 for the Vita. I am curious to see how the portable machine can handle the massive world that is Pandora and hope developer Iron Galaxy Studios can do the game justice. I am also going to give the beta of Dead Island: Epidemic a little time—see what it has to offer.

I just received the new Logitech G502 mouse in for review, so it's going to be a lot of PC games this weekend.  I've been a huge fan of the Logitech gaming mice for the last decade or so and so far the G502 is living up to its pedigree, but I haven't had much of a chance to push it yet. The mouse features a 25,000 DPI sensor, but I'm still trying to work out a situation where I'd use that kind of horsepower. Outside of that, it's going to be a lot of Hearthstone while watching hockey and soccer on the sofa this weekend. The girlfriend is completely hooked on Hearthstone and I've got to keep pace with her lest our head-to-head matches become bloodbaths.

Last week, I started another playthrough of Red Dead Redemption (while Warface's servers struggled to keep their heads above water). Provided my review of Warface is wrapped, I'll head back into old John Marston's tale of legacy, reluctance, and revenge. This game turns four in about a week, which simultaneously commemorates the four-year anniversary of my wife starting a (much liked) Widows of Red Dead Redemption page on Facebook.

I finally finished Dark Souls II after scrounging for all the items and magic I wanted. I'll probably jump in now and again to beat an optional boss and complete some covenant tasks before starting an NG+ file and calling it quits for a bit so I can catch up on other titles I've had to put aside. Speaking of which, I'll be starting to fart and curse my way through South Park: The Stick of Truth.

This weekend I'll be spending time getting some more blood shards and rift fragments in Diablo III. With MLB 14: The Show on PlayStation 4 in the house, I'm diving into “The Road to the Show,” as that's one of my favorite features of any sports game to date. If I have time, I'll jump back into Battlefield 4 because I recently picked up the premium add-on for half price.
