What We're Playing: World of Tanks Loadout Edition

More On: What we're playing

Cliff Bleszinski, mastermind behind Gears of War, won’t put another game on a disc. Developer Ken Levine shuttered the house that built BioShock. And Titanfall didn’t hand over money for positive reviews. If they had, we would’ve reviewed it twice. Just kidding.

What are you playing this weekend?

This weekend I'll likely be checking out Cloudrunner for my upcoming preview article. While I haven't played it yet it's considered a free-running platformer, so my mind immediately turned to Runner 2: Legend of Rhythm Alien, which I thought was a pretty fun game. I'm hoping Cloudrunner is something along those lines, but when it all comes down to it, I'm just a sucker for a good platformer. I also recently started up another Mega Man fan game that I heard about called Mega Man: Rock Force. I decided to check it out because one of my favorite Let's Players on YouTube is about to post his blind run of it and I wanted to play through it without spoilers. So for it's pretty good, kind of up there with Mega Man Unlimited. Granted, I still like Unlimited better, but Rock Force is pretty close.

Three-headed monster for me this weekend. Bravely Default still has a firm grip on my soul as I move into chapter four with an average level of 55 for my characters. World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition has been getting a fair amount of my time as well.

Unfortunately for me the Titanfall beta comes to an end before this weekend but I'll be scratching my first-person shooter itch a bit with Battlefield 4 and continuing my dive into Skyrim. I've put the game off for way too long and it feels good to be playing a non-multiplayer/non-shooter for the first time in a while.

My World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition sessions go one of two ways: I'm ground to bits in the first 90 seconds, or I claw my way to the upper tier of the match's leaderboard. There's little in between. Heroism is fleeting, and the thin line between living and dying is indifferent to my cause. I'm nowhere near an Xbox One or an up-to-snuff PC, but I don't mind tuning into Titanfall channels on Twitch. It's something frenzied and kinetic to watch while I ply my trade across EVE Online, one salvaged wreck and one hacked ghost site at a time.

I've been testing the waters in Loadout for the past week and I have to say, it's a lot of fun. It's kind of like the lovechild of Team Fortess 2, Call of Duty and Ren & Stimpy (but to be honest, I've never actually played a CoD game, so I'm just guessing there). If I'm still playing this time next week, I'll pretty much have to sink some money into Loadout. Not because it's pay-to-win, but because I always give myself a massive guilt trip if I don't give any money to F2P games that I like.
