Raptr reveals March's 20 most-played games

by: Randy -
More On: SimCity Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Raptr released a list of last month's most played games--at least the top 20 most played games among Raptr's 17 million members. Seventeen million gamers is nothing to shrug off. That's as if every man, woman, and child in NYC, LA, Chicago, and Houston were signed up to the video gaming social network.

So, Raptr's #1 game last month was Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Please curb your surprise. Of the total gameplay hours recorded by Raptr's servers, COD BLOPS 2 took up 7.61% of their players' total game time. That's a whole lot of robotics, cyber warfare, unmanned vehicles, and Chinese takeout. Or at least, taking out a lot of Chinese in the Chinese-American Cold War of 2025. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I've never played a Call of Duty game.

Pulling in at the tail end of Raptr's top 20 list is the embattled SimCity. Despite the game's highly publicized launch issues, it racked up 1.01% of Raptr players' time. EA's Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore said that, despite the complaints of the press and The Consumerist readers, numbers don't lie, and this somewhat proves him right. But our own John Yan can't bring himself to invest anymore time in SimCity. And I played a sum total of five hours, 10 days ago, and haven't returned either. Raptr also reports that, despite hitting #20 in March, players have dropped off precipitously since, and it's unlikely it will hang on when April's numbers come out.

Last month’s videogame releases included heavy hitters SimCity, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider and downloadable content for Mass Effect 3, titled “Citadel.” Are you curious to see which games were the top contenders for playtime this month?

Raptr has revealed the first edition of the new, monthly most played Xbox 360 and PC games list for March 2013. The results come from Raptr’s 17 million members, based on a combination of gameplay data based on total hours played by gamers.

For example, SimCity’s launch issues were well publicized in early March, and the drop off of new players joining the game has been precipitous since mid-month.
