E3 2012: Bullet Run (Hands-on)

Sony Online Entertainment was big on the FPS games this year at E3, with Planetside 2 and Bullet Run taking up a good deal of their floor space. I had a chance to go hands-on with their TV game-show inspired first person shooter. The early build showed that at its core, Bullet Run is for people who want to get a COD fix on the cheap but also have a good time and look good doing it.

Players will be able to build a character from scratch and can load them up with customizable items that can be bought with in-game currency or real money. Players running around in the demo had a wide variety of items to make sure each looked distinctly different. The desert scape stage was littered with broken down set pieces that provided a great deal of cover and made moving around the map for tactical advantages easy. The gameplay modes were split between classic team deathmatch and dominion, and offered players multiple loadouts with weapons that could be customized by the players as well, which is key to gaining fans.

Fans are key in Bullet Run, as they allow players to level up quicker and earn more money from their kills and taunts. Players actually earn more money per kill by taunting their opponent afterward, though this makes them totally vulnerable, leaving them open to revenge kills. Players also speed up the rate at which their abilities become active, while I was running around, I could kill someone and if I taunted I'd have a med-kit ready for me to use, or I could skip the taunt and get the med-kit on the next kill.

Bullet Run will be entering its beta test phase soon with a planned release for later this summer. Those interested can apply at http://www.bulletrunthegame.com. In the meantime, check out the screenshots below.
