E3 2012: Wargaming.net

I'm not sure why more people aren't talking about Wargaming.net at E3 this year.  I don't know how you ignore a company with one of the largest booths at the show.  A booth that was four times the size of the monster booth they had last year and that was as big if not bigger than the booth Electronic Arts has this year.

I'm not sure how you don't talk about a company that has grown to 900 people worldwide (the last 100 were added since I talked to them at GDC this February).

I'm also not sure how you skip past a company that has over 30 million registrations (that's almost three times the size of World of Warcraft).  We're talking about a company that has users in 203 different countries.  I'm just baffled as it's almost like the company had some kind of media cloaking device around their booth this year.

Seriously folks, what the hell?

It's not like the company hasn't been around for a while.  The company put out 13 excellent strategy games before starting work on World of Tanks.

At E3 the company showed off the latest update to World of Tanks which adds British heavy armor to the game as well as two new base centric games modes.  In the first mode one team will defend the base while the other attacks and in the second both teams will vie to control a central base.  The patch is expected to be out by the end of June.

The company also announced that they will be unifying their service across all three of their  games.  This means that you'll be able to earn, buy, and spend experience points, gold, and credits in one game and then use it in the other two.    This is a fairly interesting idea especially given how diverse the games are and I'm interested to see how it plays out as it certainly incentivizes people to try out the other games in the service.  Here's the official unveil of the service:

It's going to be another big year for the folks at Wargaming.net as World of Warplanes should launch this year and World of Battleships will be released in 2013.  By then who knows how big the company will be and how big their presence will be at E3.  I just hope someone realizes what's going on over there and decides to give them the attention they deserve.
