AMERICAN MCGEE PRESENTS: BAD DAY L.A.
HAS GONE GOLD

PC Action Adventure Bad Day L.A. Will Start Shipping to Store Nationwide
on August 28, 2006

AUSTIN, TX (August 22, 2006) - Aspyr Media today announced that American McGee Presents: Bad Day L.A for the PC has gone gold and will beginning shipping to North American stores nationwide next week.  This third-person action/adventure game, developed by acclaimed designer American McGee,  is a cinematic satire that plays off the “fear culture” of modern America by plunging players into a storyline where the city of Los Angeles is barraged with disasters.  The game combines comedy, chaos management gameplay, a unique art style created by Kozyndan, an over-the-top ironic story and a cast of characters that find themselves in goofy, often surreal missions.

Bad Day L.A. has been designed for every player over age 18 to pick up and enjoy instantly," said American McGee. “Our goal is pure fast action and fun.  Players will have a blast grabbing their weapons and ammo; running around and shooting things and interacting with a crazy cast of support characters, all while trying to save LA during what has got to be the city’s worst day ever."

Playing as Anthony Williams, a homeless man by choice whose homeless status renders him fearless, the player must defend himself, and ultimately humanity, as the city of Los Angeles comes under attack from zombies, terrorists, earthquakes, riots, meteor showers, and other disasters. Fortunately, the player is armed with a unique and eclectic mix of weapons, including mundane firearms to spray paint can flamethrowers and those now infamous nail clippers.  He also has the choice of 4 sidekicks that each comes with their own special abilities.

The ten expansive game levels are all based on ten real-world, recognizable Los Angeles locations, such as Venice Beach, Beverly Hills and Hollywood Boulevard. The game’s spectacular scripted events, unique Kozyndan art, intelligent NPCs (more than 100), engaging storyline, and compelling sound and music create a truly memorable experience.

The Story
Anthony Williams has lost all respect for himself and his fellow man. Leaving behind the privileged life of a Hollywood agent, he chooses a life of homelessness, destitution and isolation. Like Greta Garbo, all he wants is to be left alone, and so far he’s had his wish.  But today all that will change! His solitary existence is rudely interrupted by a series of natural and not-so-natural disasters. Forced to play the reluctant and ultimate antihero, Anthony must rescue Angelinos from the city that has turned its back on him and his way of life. Anthony will have to use all his street smarts to stay alive and escape what has become a very Bad Day in LA.

Key Game Features

  • Fight through Los Angeles on your way to escaping the city while suffering through calamities, such as earthquakes, fires, meteor showers, invasions, and constant riots
  • Interact with more than 100 characters throughout dozens of insane missions
  • Join up with four sidekicks - the Sick Kid (who launches Zombie vomit attacks), Juan the Mexican yard worker, Beverly of Beverly Hills (the blonde bimbo), and the Sergeant (a mix of George Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger) – each with their own special abilities, styles and personalities
  • Brawl using every day items (nail clippers, spray paint cans, etc…) that can be used as weapons, along with firearms and melee weapons
  • Explore real-life and recognizable Los Angeles locations, including Hollywood Boulevard, Venice Beach and Beverly Hills.
  • Experience the funky and unique ‘super flat’ art style created by famed Los Angeles art team Kozyndan, which offsets the serious nature of the game's story and blunt the game’s violence.  It also helps to visually communicate the satire aspect of the game.
  • Manage the game’s chaos. The player must think strategically in order to move through any given level and mission as quickly as possible, but at the same time they must also pay attention to the chaos in the level around them. If the player tries to simply "run and gun" through the levels, they will be met with destruction.
  • Balance ‘Threat level’ combat systems, where the world reacts to the way the player behaves. Gamers can raise and lower their “Threat” status based on their actions.  For example, killing innocent civilians raises it, whereas taking out terrorists lowers it.
  • Battle "bosses" in the game, including a mad movie theatre manager and a 25-foot man in a hamburger costume.
