More On: Star Trek: Legacy
You heard it here first: Bethesda has hired legendary Star Trek writer D.C. Fontana to pen the story for their upcoming Trek epic, Legacy.  Most ST fans know what I'm talking about, but for those who don't know, Ms. Fontana has worked on Star Trek since the original series, and has written some of the most memorable scripts.  Rest easy, Trekkers.  Legacy is in the best of hands.  Seriously, the only way it'd be better is if Gene Roddenberry himself were still alive and writing this thing.  Trust me.
Bethesda Softworks® announced today that acclaimed STAR TREK® writer Dorothy "D.C." Fontana, with her partner, Derek Chester, have collaborated to write the scripts for its upcoming titles, STAR TREK: Legacy™ and STAR TREK ®: Tactical Assault.  Fontana, a prominent creative force behind the STAR TREK franchise since its inception in the 1960s, continues to contribute to its broad-based appeal with vibrant and innovative story lines.

STAR TREK: Legacy is in development for both the Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows, while STAR TREK: Tactical Assault is being developed for Nintendo DS™ and Sony PSP™ (PlayStation® Portable). Both titles are scheduled to launch this fall under license from CBS Consumer Products.

"We are thrilled to have one of STAR TREK's most prolific and distinguished writers on our project team," said Todd Vaughn, Bethesda Softworks' VP of Development. "Fontana's involvement underscores our commitment to remain true to the STAR TREK vision and provide fans with the exceptional, original and accurate STAR TREK games that they deserve."

Fontana has written countless episodes, spanning the original STAR TREK series to STAR TREK: Deep Space Nine®.  In addition to her collaboration on STAR TREK, Fontana has influenced television science fiction writing with her work on The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5, and Earth: Final Conflict. In 2001, she was inducted into the American Screenwriters Association Hall of Fame and in both 1997 and 2002, received the Writers Guild Morgan Cox Award for her many years of service to the Guild.

"From TV to videogames, the STAR TREK story continues to excite and engage fans of all ages," said Fontana. "I applaud Bethesda Softworks' loyalty to the franchise and I am looking forward to providing fans with memorable adventures and characters, all set in creative, compelling storylines."

STAR TREK: Legacy places you in the role of the Admiral of a task force of warships, which you control in small and large-scale battles.  Test your strategic and tactical skills in real-time combat featuring authentic spaceships, full damage modeling, and spectacular visual effects.  The storyline in Legacy spans the entire STAR TREK Universe, including the Original Series, STAR TREK: The Next Generation®, STAR TREK: Deep Space Nine®, STAR TREK: Voyager®, and STAR TREK: Enterprise™ eras.   STAR TREK: Legacy is being developed at the studios of Mad Doc Software, creators of the highly successful and critically acclaimed STAR TREK  Armada II.

STAR TREK: Tactical Assault, in development for handheld gaming systems, features real-time spaceship combat from the universe of the original STAR TREK series. With a wide array of authentic STAR TREK races, ships, and weaponry, you can engage in single-player battle through either the Federation or Klingon campaigns or in head-to-head wireless multiplayer combat.  STAR TREK: Tactical Assault is being developed in the studios of Quicksilver Software, creators of the highly popular Star Trek: Starfleet Command®

STAR TREK: Legacy has not yet been rated by the ESRB.  STAR TREK: Tactical Assault has been rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. For more information on the titles, visit the official web site at http://startrek.bethsoft.com.
