RUMOR: Warner Bros going the online pass route with Mortal Kombat

More On: Mortal Kombat
I'm really looking forward to the next Mortal Kombat game and everything I am seeing gets a big thumbs up from me. Joystiq is reporting a rumor that with the game's release, they will now require the much debated online pass scenario.

What that means is if you are buying new, you can play online with a one time use code. If you buy used, that code is most likely taken so you're going to have to pay $10 or 800 MS points if you want to play online. For those that don't care about online fighting and want to buy it used, you won't notice.

While I'm not a big fan of the online pass, the story also goes on to report that upcoming WB games will be using it and one of them is Batman: Arkham City. That game's going to be single player only so Joystiq is deducing and I agree that this will allow you to access other content. That is something I totally disagree with. I'm not in favor of making people pay for online play if they are buying used, but I can understand a little bit since there needs to be funds for some server maintenance. Most console games don't use dedicated servers anyways, but I'm guessing there are some servers that route some match making data to consoles. But, to force someone to buy a pass for a single player game only just to access content? That's taking it a bit too far and I hope WB doesn't implement this for Batman.

As for Mortal Kombat, I'm not one to play fighters online so I wouldn't be affected by this, but there are plenty out there that will be. With this bit of news, does this make you think twice about buying the game or buying it used?
