Rockstar has released a new video for L.A. Noire that shows off how MotionScan, the performance capture technology that was used to create the characters in the game. The two parts of the technology focus on motion capture (which has been around forever) and motion scanning (which gets 3D images of the actor delivering the lines.) The video is narrated by .A. Noire developers Oliver Bao and Brendan McNamara and features Mad Men’s Aaron Staton (who plays Cole Phelps) getting scanned. This is some pretty cool tech, and will definitely make games more real and the in-game characters not only look like their real-life actor counterparts, but show off all their mannerisms as well.
