Daft Punk to supply two tracks to Tron: Evolution

More On: Tron: Evolution
I know this will sound a bit like nerd heresy but I'm still debating which I'm looking forward to more, the new Tron film, or the new Tron soundtrack.  This is mostly because I've become a huge fan of Daft Punk over the last few years and this will be the techno duo's first new original work since 2005.

I bring this up because Disney announced yesterday that the duo will be providing two tracks from the movie for Tron: Evolution, the video game that will fill in some of the blanks between the original film and the film that will be released on December 17th.  Also contributing tracks will be Sascha Dikiciyan, Cris Velasco and Kevin Manthei.

The first of the two tracks (Derezzed) has already been released.  Feel free to debate soundtracks of games in the comments.

TWO KEY TRACKS FROM UPCOMING ‘TRON: LEGACY’ FILM SCORE

Additional Industry-Leading Electronic Composers Created

Ethereal Music Score to Accompany Video Game Action

BURBANK, Calif. — (November 17, 2010) – Iconic and critically acclaimed French duo Daft Punk, who created the music score for Walt Disney Pictures’ highly anticipated upcoming film “TRON: Legacy,” provided two of their tracks from the film for TRON: Evolution, the video game for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows - LIVE. Disney Interactive Studios announced today the inclusion of two Daft Punk tracks in the game -- “Derezzed” and “The Grid” -- along with music from composers Sascha Dikiciyan, Cris Velasco and Kevin Manthei.

The original motion picture soundtrack for “TRON: Legacy” composed by Daft Punk is also set for release on December 7, 2010, from Walt Disney Records. The original motion picture soundtrack, marking the first film score from Daft Punk, is available for pre-order at iTunes.com/TRON.

“Daft Punk’s incredible music is a major part of the ‘TRON: Legacy’ film and brings audiences into the unique TRON grid. We didn’t hesitate when the opportunity arose to include some of the ‘TRON: Legacy’ music into the video game,” said Darren Hedges, game director, Propaganda Games. “The music score is punctuated by not only Daft Punk, but three of the best electronic composers in the business.”

One of the most sought after electronic and video game composers, Sascha Dikiciyan, provided much of the music for TRON: Evolution. Dikiciyan’s score can be heard throughout the game and added to the overall game soundscape and marquee battles.

The music included in the in-game cinematics was created by Cris Velasco. TRON: Evolution has many film-quality cinematics that tell a story that takes place before the events of the “TRON: Legacy” film. Velasco was able to highlight key moments of the story in these dynamic and dramatic moments with a cinematic-quality score.

Ambient audio tracks for areas of exploration and spiritual landmarks in the game were created by Kevin Manthei. Manthei was brought in to punch up the music in an early internal gameplay proposal and the audio worked so well, he was then signed to supply the actual game’s audio.

“When you’re playing the game, the mesmerizing music draws you into the action,” said Jason Owen, lead audio designer, Propaganda Games. “The audio of video games is crucial to the experience and the TRON: Evolution music score definitely separates it from others.”

The TRON: Evolution games will be available on December 7, 2010, in North America for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Games for Windows - LIVE, the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held systems and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. In addition, TRON: Evolution – Battle Grids for the Wii™ console will include competitive four-player mini games for the entire family.

TRON: Evolution conveys the story of a series of seismic events within the TRON mythology that help shape the “TRON: Legacy” movie. The game features an epic adventure across a massive digital Grid filled with high-mobility disc-based combat and advanced light cycles and light tanks.
