Starcraft II sells three million copies in its first month

Kudos to the folks at Blizzard as they announced this week that Starcraft II has sold three million copies in it's first month of release.  This isn't unexpected as the game is excellent and it was one of the more anticipated PC games in recent memory (a decade in development will do that).

That sales are solid look good but if you frame it in the context of something like Halo 3 (which sold about two million copies in the first 24 hrs of release) or the Modern Warfare 2 (approximately five  million copies in its first day) it puts things into a bit more perspective.  This isn't a downer on the PC game industry but just a bit of perspective.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was released simultaneously in North America, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on July 27. With day-one sales topping 1 million copies, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty became the bestselling PC game of 2010 within its first 24 hours of availability.
