Stupid Sony quote of the week

I get that there's a certain amount of hyperbole that is generated by console executives in the build up to a console release.  I can take ludicrous quotes about how well your system will perform and how well you expect to do in the market, that kind of stuff is expected but when you go and say that you're going to kill the PC, well that's taking it a bit too far.  Too bad that's what Phil Harrison, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide studio said to Boomtown last week.  The direct quote is:

"We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [home] computer functions," said Harrison. "The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."

Apparently Phil has never heard of WebTV or any of the other TV based computing initiativs that have been tried before and failed miserably.  I'll give the PS3 a lot of leeway way in comes to playing games, movies, and playing music but there's no way I want to write reviews, surf the web, or write e-mail on my TV.
