Revolution becomes Wii

It looks like Nintendo has dropped the bomb early and re-named its next generation console "Wii".  I first thought it was a joke but then the posts started showing up everywhere veryifying it.  The actual name appears to be pronounced "We" as in "We will play together" or something like that.

At first blush the name is a bit absurd and I can already hear the raucous laughter of the various fanboys echoing through internet message boards around the world.  After sitting on it a bit (and letting lunch sit a bit) I have to give credit for Nintendo for a coming up with such a perfect name for their next system.  While the spelling of the system reeks of pure marking BS (apologies if there is a language where wii actually means anything) but given the goals of their upcoming system (bringing in non-gamers) it's a near perfect name.  But that's just my .02.

Looks like they also launched a new website as well.

Introducing ... Wii.

As in "we."

While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games ... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it's really not about you or me.

It's about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.
