10tons announced Boom Brigade for the iPhone and iPod Touch today. The game mixes Tower Defense and line drawing titles with an overhead view. Instead of the usual fixed defense item (i.e Turret, tank, machine gun nest, etc) you actually position your individual troops with their choice of weapon to defend a "line" of sight. During the onslaught of aliens, your brigade will get reinforcements, drops and the ability to build up your defense to maximize your score. Boom Brigade is due out this September on the Apple App Store. No pricing has been announced yet. Check out some screens and a video to tide you over until it is released:
10tons Announces Boom Brigade for iPhone™ and iPod touch®
TAMPERE, FINLAND – September 3, 2009 – 10tons Ltd. has announced an upcoming title called Boom Brigade for iPhone™ and iPod touch®. The game is a mix of tower defense, top-down shooter and line drawing games. The game will be released during September 2009 on App Store.
"We've tried to polish the game experience and difficulty curve to perfection. Now that the game is almost finished, we think that it offers a fun challenge for all kinds of players,” commented Game Designer Timo Palonen. “It's easy to pick up, but reaching the higher boss waves takes some practice. I think it's one of the most enjoyable top down shooters to date. We wanted to create a classic game that uses modern controls on Apple's mobile devices."
The player controls a bunch of troopers each carrying a weapon of player's choosing: a minigun, a bazooka, or a shotgun. The troopers are controlled by drawing lines on the screen and they fire their weapons automatically at the alien horde. The game starts with one trooper and the reinforcements will be sent in as the pace picks up. The goal is to defend a bunker against the alien horde with an appetite for humans. The longer the player survives, the higher the score. Aliens drop loot which can be used to reinforce the brigade, heal the troops, upgrade the troopers, and repair the bunker.
