In-depth Metroid Prime Trilogy article

I really hate linking to IGN's commercially shameless, ad-infested pages, but they have a fascinating article up about Metroid Prime Trilogy. Their Wii channel's EIC Matt Casamassina got to visit the reclusive Retro Studios HQ and get the scoop on the development of all three games, and all the ups and downs along the way.

It's a very insightful article, especially the early management problems and communication issues Retro had with their Nintendo overlords. I can only imagine how aggravating it is to work for the arrogant, "we can do no wrong" Nintendo of Japan, especially when you're an America studio making games for American gamers, and as we've seen this generation Nintendo has no clue how to connect with the American hardcore anymore. With all the studio turmoil and miscommunication it's amazing they were able to turn out two of the best games of last generation, and one of the handful of really great first party Wii games so far. I suppose it's a testament to the artistic skill and dedication of Retro's developers.

I can't wait to see what they have planned next (Nintendo's PR inquisitors wouldn't let Casamassina ask any questions about that), I just hope the Nintendo brass knows well enough to let these extraordinarily talented people do their jobs, without any balance boards, yoga routines or Wuhu islands involved.
