Right now from what I understand, the Netflix stream for HD movies are at 720p and I think only stereo. If it's wrong please correct me in the comments but I'm sure that's what it's stuck at now. Well,
GamerzInk went to an MS event and got a look at Movies on Demand where you can get 1080p movies with 5.1 surround sound finally. They said the movie started up in seconds but for those that have a slower connection you can download it and have up to 2 weeks to watch.
I'm guessing that it's using a Silverlight player that is actually pretty damn awesome when watching HD content. If you haven't tried it,
install Silverlight and
try it out for yourself. You can dynamically change the bit rate and see the image change in the player as you are watching the clip.
Anyways, good to hear and I wonder what the quality will be like compared to a Blu-ray movie. Streaming right off the bat does sound pretty slick for those that have the bandwidth to do it.
