Phantasy Star library added to Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

More On: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
Available in one, bow-tied package for the first time ever* this February 10, the entire Phantasy Star series will be found in the upcoming Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for 360 and PS3.  That's the original Phantasy Star plus parts II, III, and IV.  Fun fact:  When Phantasy Star IV was first released, the retail price was almost $100.  Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is going for--by comparison--a paltry $29.99 (which will also include Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3, Columns, Ecco the Dolphin, Shinobi III, Space Harrier, Streets of Rage, and plenty more).

[*CORRECTION:  This is NOT the first time all four of the main Phantasy Star games were together in one package.  The first time was the Phantasy Star Collection on the Sega Saturn, released in 1998 only in Japan.  This is the first time U.S. gamers get all four games together, however.  Thanks to Defunct Games' (and our own) Cyril Lachel for the correction.  The Sega press release is misleading. - Ed.]

SEGA® of America, Inc. has released all new assets of the upcoming game Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection™ for PLAYSTATION® 3 and Xbox 360® video game system!

Welcome to the first installment of Retro Tuesdays! This week's trip down video game memory lane features the entire collection of the classic franchise, Phantasy Star! This is the first time ever that all four titles have been featured in one compilation!

A few fun facts you may not have known about the Phantasy Star series:

-          A graphically enhanced version of Phantasy Star™ was the first title released in the Japan-only SEGA Ages™ series.

-          The U.S. box art for Phantasy Star™ II depicts lead characters Rolf and Nei not in their usual anime style, but as shockingly older versions of themselves. Nei's long ears have also been transformed into horns.

-          In Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, there are four different endings to the game, depending on which characters you marry at the end of each generation.

-          When Phantasy Star™ IV was first released     the retail price was almost $100. Think about how much this collection cost. You're welcome.
