Gamasutra has posted their top five game mechanics
of 2008 and there's not much to disagree with as they cover the time travel mechanic from Braid
, the zombie mechanics from Left 4 Dead
, puzzle making with LittleBigPlanet
, and a few others.
One thing they don't cover is that the game industry seemed to move away from quick time button sequences this year. Sure there were a few games that utilized this but for the most part it seemed like companies are starting to leave this behind them. Is there anything Gamasutra missed?
