Want to help Shadowrun return to its roots?

More On: Shadowrun Returns
While it is not surprising that another classic franchise has popped up on Kickstarter with hopes of fueling a rebirth, there is one in particular that seems to be getting a lot of attention in my gaming circles. Jordan Weisman and his development team at Harebrained Schemes have launched a Kickstarter page to bring back the classic Shadowrun to a whole new generation. Shadowrun Returns isn’t just a cash in on the classic name (cough, like someone did in 2007, cough), but a return to the series’ roots and a possible rebirth of a genre.

In the pitch video below, you will see that Weisman and his crew want to make a game that Shadowrun fans have been hoping to see for nearly 15 years: a true steampunk RPG that not only gives players the ability to play through an adventure, but to make and share their own as well. The project was asking for $400,000 in order to happen, and the project has already exceed that amount... actually it is close to doubling it. That doesn’t mean that we should give up on it though; the more people that get behind this project the bigger and better that it becomes.

The development crew have already expanded their plans for the project, adding both a Mac version and support for numerous languages. If it hits the next level of $1M, then a major expansion will occur, adding in a full second city / world to explore in the game (which will also give players more options for creating their own adventures).

If you are interested in donating to the project, head over to the official Kickstarter page and donate before the project deadline of April 28, 2012.
