Time to say goodbye: Phantasy Star Universe

 It is always a sad day when an era comes to an end.  In this case, the server support for the PC and PlayStation 2 versions of Phantasy Star Universe is ending.  Sega announced in an official forum posting on their website that the online servers for the game would be closing on March 31, 2010.  The games will be receiving their final updates on January 29, 2010 which will also mark the beginning of the a special MAG+ event.  After that update is released, Sega will cease to offer online subscriptions (Hunter's Licenses) for the game but will not charge existing players subscription fees for February and March.

While the support for these versions is ceasing, the Xbox 360 version of Phantasy Star Universe will continue to be supported and updated.  Sega hints that they are closing these servers in order to "pave the way for bigger and better things for the Phantasy Star franchise".  Considering that this year marks the 10 year anniversary of the original Phantasy Star Online, maybe they have something special up their sleeve(s)...
