More On: Rock Band 2 The Beatles: Rock Band
Remember that contest that was held via Facebook for the best Rock Band marketing…er, rock group? Well they’ve chosen a winner: four lads from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their group, Jimmy Twinkle and the BAD, will be performing for 20 long hours at the MTV Store in Times Square on November 13th. In an optimistic spirit, I’m sure there’s some redeeming quality to the name, perhaps in its acronym or some obscure reference.

There are several videos of their live performances on Youtube, but to be honest I thought I’d spare you all the background screams of excitement from the particular viewer who seems to be recording the performances. Although, it is interesting to see how realistically similar their live performance is to a legit concert. If you must, click away.

If you’re one of the other 115 or so bands who didn’t make the cut, or if you just missed out entirely and were hoping for another shot at glamour, you could partake in their Battle of the Bands event that will be composed of three battles. Win through the three levels of difficult – Tune-Up (Nov. 16th), Power Through (Nov. 18th), and Advance Rock (Nov. 20th) – on Rock Band’s Battle of the Bands multiplayer feature, and you’ll win the entire Rock Band DLC catalogue, a year’s supply of the Energizer batteries used to power the rocking out session in Times Square, and an Energizer Rock Band pack along with some other goodies. Top five scorers of the competition will also get said Energizer Rock Band pack and a few DLC tracks, as well. Completing at least one level will automatically enter you into the sweepstakes to win a bunch of other prizes like the The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Bundle and others. The scoreboard never felt so gratifying.

America’s Favorite Rock Band™ Band to Perform 20-Hour Concert in Times Square

Performance Kicks-Off Longest Battle of the Bands in Rock Band History

St. Louis (Nov. 12, 2009) – They may not have sold out Madison Square Garden or have a contract with a major record label, but on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m., four young Rock Band™ players from Grand Rapids, Mich., will know what it feels like to be rock stars when they perform a 20-hour Rock Band concert at the MTV store in Times Square. The performance will kick-off the Energizer “Advance into Overdrive” Battle of the Bands, the longest online battle in Rock Band history.

The four musicians, also known as Jimmy Twinkle and the BAD, were recently named America’s favorite Rock Band band by Facebook users across the country. Not only will the Michigan band get the chance to perform in Times Square, they will receive rock-star treatment throughout their visit including luxury ground transportation, a hotel suite and dinner at one of New York’s hottest restaurants.

“We are just four average guys from Grand Rapids, so to be treated like rock stars is absolutely a dream come true,” said Jimmy Paauwe, lead singer of Jimmy Twinkle and the BAD. “We are grateful to our fans for helping us get this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We cannot wait to rock out Times Square.”

More than 115 bands competed for the chance to play at the kick-off event. Interested Rock Band bands had to create a band profile within the Energizer Rock Band “Advance into Overdrive” Facebook application and had two weeks to populate their page and gain fans. At the end, Jimmy Twinkle and the BAD took first place for having the most fans and the most creative, interactive and entertaining content.

Now, the band will play for 20 straight hours in a performance powered by Energizer® Advanced Lithium, signifying the 20 additional hours* of continuous playing time provided by using Energizer® Advanced Lithium batteries in their gaming accessories. In addition to offering long-lasting power, Energizer® Advanced Lithium has a shelf life of 10 years and weighs 33 percent less than an ordinary alkaline battery. The entire 20-hour performance will be streamed live at www.rockband.com/energizer.

“Gamers rely on Energizer® Advanced Lithium batteries to provide hours and hours of uninterrupted game play,” said Jim Olsen, Vice President of Marketing, North America for Energizer. “That’s why it made perfect sense to host the longest online battle in Rock Band history and to help power one group’s dream of living the rock-star lifestyle.”

“Advance Into Overdrive” Battle

The Times Square performance signals the start of the Energizer “Advance Into Overdrive” Battle of the Bands series. The Battle of the Bands is an in-game feature that allows the Rock Band community to play against one another remotely in themed battles. The “Advance Into Overdrive” Battle marks the first Battle of the Bands series and the longest online Battle of the Bands in Rock Band history. Players from across the country will compete against each other on the longest songs in the Rock Band catalogue to see who, at the end of the day, is the most Advanced Rock Band star.

“We are excited to partner with Energizer® Advanced Lithium because these batteries are proven to provide uninterrupted game play, which is what Rock Band fans demand,” said Christina Glorioso, Vice President of Marketing Partnerships for Rock Band. “Since the ‘Advance into Overdrive’ Battle is the longest online Battle of the Bands in the history of Rock Band, players will need a long-lasting battery to help power their scores.”

Starting Nov. 16, in the Battle of the Bands’ section of Rock Band 2, users will see the Energizer “Advance Into Overdrive” Battle, which will be divided into three stages (battles) by difficulty level: Battle One: Tune-Up (launching Nov. 16), Battle Two: Power Through (launching Nov. 18), Battle Three: Advance Rock (launching Nov. 20). All battles will be available for multiplayer bands and single players, so solo players and bands alike can compete for prizing.

The top-scoring band and most-Advanced rock stars of the series will receive the entire Rock Band DLC catalogue of more than 800 songs and a year’s worth of Energizer® Advanced Lithium batteries to power their game play, as well as an Energizer Rock Band prize pack including an Energizer branded, one-of-a-kind guitar cap for the Rock Band guitar, Rock Band t-shirt and other cool swag items. The top-five scorers from the series will also receive DLC tracks as well as an Energizer Rock Band prize pack.

Upon entry and completion of any level, players will be entered into the Energizer Rock Band “Advance Into Overdrive” Battle Sweepstakes, which includes prizes like The Beatles™: Rock Band™ Limited Edition Bundle, the Ion Drum Rocker, DLC tracks and much more.
