The Witcher: Versus is coming to ... everything

by: Ben Berry -
More On: The Witcher: Versus
The Witcher is one of my favorite software success stories. Based on Polish fantasy novels, the CD Projekt team came to E3 a few years ago without a publisher and by the end of the first day of the show they had been signed by Atari. A hit was born, and now comes the cottage industry that seems to follow every successful game.

gamigo AG, a German company that specializes in free-to-play MMO's is going to release a new game The Witcher: Versus which is coming to the web, Facebook, and the iPhone.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will when I get home this week. Hit the jump for the release.
gamigo announces The Witcher: Versus for North America

Action-packed, strategic combat online RPG will also soon be available
on Facebook and the iPhone

Hamburg, Germany (April 9, 2010) - gamigo AG, a wholly-owned subsidiary
of Axel Springer AG, was founded in 2001 and has grown to become one
of the leading publishers of free-to-play MMOGs in Europe.  gamigo
today announced that The Witcher: Versus will now be available in
Europe and North America.  Hundreds of thousands of players in Eastern
Europe are already competing in exciting duels in the dark world of
The Witcher. gamigo and the Witcher experts at developer one2tribe now
present a version of the game, The Witcher: Versus, that is playable
not only in your web browser, but also soon on Facebook and iPhone.
The game can now be played online at http://witcher-versus.gamigo.com

In celebration of the global release (with the exception of Eastern
Europe) of the browser-based version in both English and German, the
scope of the game has been greatly expanded. One new special feature
is the ability to unlock items for the highly anticipated upcoming
role-playing game from CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 2!

"Millions of players have already immersed themselves into the world of
The Witcher and we are very excited to be opening a new chapter of
this success story in collaboration with one2tribe," said Patrick
Streppel, member of gamigo's Executive Board. "The Witcher: Versus is
based on the fascinating concept of action-packed strategic combat in
a familiar RPG setting. We are also proud to be one of the first
publishers to announce a cross-platform game playable in a browser, on
Facebook, and on iPhone."

The Witcher: Versus is a revolutionary browser based dueling game based
on the popular RPG series "The Witcher". The storyline of the game is
tied to the character's development and is based on the popular series
of fantasy novels by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Besides
spectacularly animated PvP duels, The Witcher: Versus also comprises a
number of role-playing game elements such as PvE combat, quests, and
achievements. Animated exploratory expeditions led with all sorts of
challenges, highly-detailed character development, and countless guild
features including RvR warfare and town building, are some of the many
highlights of the game. Players can mould their alter ego to their
specifications by choosing one of three character classes and
equipping their character with a variety of weapons, equipment, and
potions. Leveling up will unlock new attack and defence strategies and
buffs.

A number of new features have been introduced to The Witcher: Versus,
such as the chance for guilds to conquer fortresses. New towns and
travel routes have also been added, as well as dozens of quests based
on guilds and castle warfare. Players can also learn more about the
fascinating world of The Witcher in story quests. Players can enter
the fray of battle as a Witcher, a Sorceress, or a Frightener and put
the wealth of skills that each class of character comes equipped with
to good use. Once they have reached a certain level, players can leave
the keep, Kaer Morhen, and set out in search of new and dangerous
realms. More powerful opponents wait outside the keep. Players can
access more regions of the gameworld with each increase in their level
of experience.
