Gamasutra's
reporting that Microsoft is planning on laying off all those at Ensemble Studios with the majority of the staff being laid off this morning. The developers behind
Halo Wars have been offered incentives to finish the project but they'll be gone as well when the game is done. This is pretty sad news as the folks at Ensemble made some pretty solid RTS games. I remember watching the demonstration of
Age of Empires III at one of the E3s while I was sitting waiting for my next appointment and how impressed I was with the detail the engine could produce. I hope the guys there land on their feet and I'm sure they will as they had some talented developers. The company was founded in 1995.
