EA has announced a downloadable follow up to last year’s NBA Jam reboot that hit the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. The new title,
NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, will be released as a downloadable title on the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.
The new version of the game looks to build on the foundation laid by the retail release of the game. New features in the digital title will include improved / tweaked AI, a new online competition called the JAM Arena, an online cooperative campaign, new hidden characters, and other new secrets.
I reviewed the retail release of the game back in early January and had a blast, but I definitely see where the game could have benefited from being a digitally distributed title. Ea seems to be playing their cards right with the series now that they have their foot in the door and have shown that they have the “chops” to further the NBA Jam legacy. This could be the start of a new dynasty in the arcade style basketball genre.
