EA has announced that Vincent Lecavalier will be the cover athlete for NHL 2006. Pretty solid pick as the former first round pick finally put it all together and delivered the cup to Tampa Bay last year. Interestingly enough his teammate, Martin St. Louis graced the cover of last years NHL 2K5. I was kind of hoping Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets would have made it this year (especially after lighting up the Swedish Elite League with Joe Thornton this year) but his time will come soon enough.
VINCENT LECAVALIER SHOOTS AND SCORES WITH EA IN NHL 06

Tampa Bay Lightning All-Star center has signed as the cover athlete with EA SPORTS

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – May 5, 2005 – Tampa Bay Lightning All-Star center Vincent Lecavalier has signed with Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world’s leading interactive software company, to be the cover athlete and spokesman for its EA SPORTS™ branded NHL® 06 game. The highly skilled assistant captain of the Lightning is the perfect choice for the 14th season of EA’s NHL franchise as shooting and scoring have never been so much fun.

With NHL® 06 players can score like a superstar, express themselves through their shooting style with the new EA SPORTS Skill Stick and light the lamp with highlight reel moves such as spinoramas, toe drags, bat-ins, and between-the-legs shots. Classic deke control adds to the arsenal of moves allowing maneuvers around defensemen before snapping off dangerous shots that can ripple the twine and knock the water bottle off the net.

“I am very excited about being a member of the EA SPORTS team,” Lecavalier said. “I grew up playing EA SPORTS games and to be a part of NHL® 06 now is a great honor.”

Lecavalier, 25, already has become one of the most decorated young stars in the NHL. Following the 2003-04 NHL season, Lecavalier led the Lightning to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they prevailed in seven games. Just three months later he was named the Most Valuable Player as Team Canada won the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. He was the first overall selection in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

NHL® 06 was developed by EA Canada in Vancouver, B.C., and will be available on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, the Nintendo GameCube and PC this fall. Screenshots of NHL® 06 can be found at http://info.ea.com.
