Draugen's teaser trailer emerges from the deep

More On: Draugen

Red Thread's new horror title Draugen has its first teaser trailer and while I have almost no idea what the game is about, that somehow makes it even scarier. Damn do I like the writing too. The ominous monologue that plays over the trailer is giving me a very creepy Eternal Darkness vibe, just bleak and hopeless enough. Supposedly the plot concerns an American scientist of the 1920s trapped in a Norwegian fishing village. Few games (I can't think of a single one) explore the horror iconography of Scandinavian myth, so I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this one as it slithers its way to PC, Mac, Linux and "an undisclosed next-generation console." Spooky.

Draugen gets first teaser trailer

Trailer includes gameplay footage from new first-person survival horror game by the creators of Dreamfall Chapters

Red Thread Games has just released the first teaser trailer for Draugen, their upcoming first-person survival horror game for PC, Mac, Linux and an undisclosed next-generation console.

Taking place in 1923, and set amongst the mountains and fjords of the Norwegian west coast, Draugen is a dark and disturbing journey into the pitch black heart of Norwegian national romanticism, as seen through the eyes of an American scientist.

The game is inspired by Scandinavian literature, legends and fairytales, as well as Norse mythology and the Icelandic sagas, and delves into the deepest, darkest secrets of a remote fishing community where every single soul has mysteriously vanished.

As the player explores the tiny settlement, gathering clues and memories, and unearthing the truth behind a terrible tragedy, they will learn more about the history of the village and its inhabitants. And they will come to see that behind even the most innocent of facades lurks the potential for malice.

But there is more to this place than meets the eye.

From time to time, a woman in black can be spotted in the distance. Who is she, and what is her connection to this place? Who is the little girl singing broken lullabies as the sky begins to darken? And when night falls, and those last few, precious drops of kerosene in the lamp feed a fragile, flickering flame, what hides out there in the darkness and in the cold, black sea?

Discover the clues. Uncover the memories. Decipher the past. Survive the night.
