Dragon’s Dogma brings a social experience to the solo RPG

Perhaps it is a bit of blind faith in one of my favorite developers / publishers, but Capcom’s upcoming RPG Dragon’s Dogma looks more impressive each and every time that I see it.

Capcom recently launched a video series highlighting the means in which the game’s characters, both playable and non-playable, will progress over time. The series was split up into 4 separate parts, all of which you can view below.

One of the coolest things that is being done with the game is with your non-playable companions, called pawns. The game will allow you to level up and train your companions as well as share them with other’s who are playing the game. Pawns can be shared online and when someone else uses your pawn(s) for a mission or series of missions, they will return with both loot and advanced skills the next time that you use them. You will also be able to hire and use other player’s pawns in your adventure as well. It is a really interesting concept.

The other videos will touch on topics such as effective Pawn selection, customization options, and questing and item forging options found in the game world. Dragon’s Dogma launches next month, on May 22, 2012.
