The original TurboGrafx-16 video game console was developed by Hudson Soft and NEC. It was released to major popularity in Japan in 1987, making its way to North America in 1989. With an 8-bit CPU and dual 16-bit GPU the console was capable of displaying 482 colors at once. TurboGrafx-16 was the first console to have an optional CD module, which allowed for more storage and cheaper costs.
