GoldenEye remake producer is confident

According to Video Games Daily, GoldenEye 007 remake producer Dawn Pinkney isn't all that worried about how the game will perform on the Wii. In a recent interview she emphasized the wide variety of control schemes the new GoldenEye features, and is confident this will give the game a wider appeal.

I appreciate Dawn Pinkney's enthusiasm but I'm still not sure what to think about this one. The Wii has seen a number of shooters over the years, some of them really good, but the console's inescapable gimmick reputation made sure that none of them did very well. Then again, Nintendo is personally hyping the new GoldenEye, and Nintendo is the only publisher Nintendo fans consistently pay attention to.

It's also important to note that the original GoldenEye was the game that made a lot of gamers Nintendo fans to begin with. Find any fan who has stuck with Nintendo since the N64 days and I guarantee GoldenEye is one of their fondest memories. If there's one shooter that Nintendo fans will get excited about and buy, it's GoldenEye. Right now it's up to Eurocom to make the game different enough to be relevant today, but similar enough to the original to make it nostalgic. No easy feat, to be sure, but after Eurocom's excellent job on the criminally under-appreciated Dead Space Extraction, I have a feeling they can pull it off.
