I missed this last night but one of the things that Microsot announced last night at their CES keynote was that the
Windows 7 beta will be available Friday for everyone to download and try out. The OS features a host of UI and stability improvements over Vista and should be a much more pleasant experience than Vista was.
It's worth noting that this is a beta and that it's probably going to have more than it's share of "quirks". However I do know a few non-Microsoft people who have been running the previous build of
Windows 7 (the PDC build) without any major problems. I've got a spare box lying around the house that I'll probably upgrade to the new OS to see if it lives up to it's promises. Check back next week for some impressions.
