Vivox is making a strong appearance at the Austin Game Developers Conference this September 5 - 7.  Vivox, the company bringing in-game communications to EVE Online and Second Life (among others), is featuring some interesting new tech at the show to include 3D positional sound (where another person is standing in relation to the player affects speech direction and volume), multi-channeling (participate in conversations spanning several channels), and the Vivox Connector (allowing out-of-game players to stay connected with their in-game friends).  Is this a publicly-traded company yet?  Somebody get some money down on these guys, quick.

VIVOX® GEARS UP FOR

AUSTIN GAME DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE

Framingham, Mass.—August 28, 2007 — Vivox, Inc., the leading provider of integrated voice services for online games and virtual worlds, today outlined participation at the upcoming Austin Game Developers Conference. Vivox will exhibit from its corporate booth #215. Austin Game Developers Conference runs September 5-7 at the Austin Convention Center, Austin, Texas.

In their booth, Vivox will showcase customers and partners as well as several examples of executed technologies and roadmap previews including:

3D Positional Sound – Recently deployed in Second Life, users can hear other users in relation to where they are positioned – left, right, behind, front. Users may simply approach any other in-world avatar and begin a voice conversation with directional audio inputs and distance dependent audio volume attenuation.  Avatars that are closer sound louder, and an avatar’s audio volume gets softer as they walk away. Voice conversations are natural and life-like, and group conversations are easier to manage and understand.

Multi-Channel – Users can now participate in more than one voice channel with the multi-channel feature. This feature, soon to be released in EVE Online, makes fleet control and group organization easy and effective as you can monitor more than one channel at a time and manage user participation from both the developer and player points.

Vivox Connector – Vivox Connector allows players to stay connected with their in-game friends, even when they're not playing. Vivox Connector runs in the system tray and allows users to see which of their friends are online, and allows them to IM or call their friends whether their friends are in-game or on Vivox Connector. In-game players can IM or call Vivox Connector users, and the increased presence opportunities expands the size of the active and available game community.

In July 2007, Vivox was named to the list of the AlwaysOn Top 100 private companies. In addition, Wizards of the Coast, IBM, K2 Networks, Monumental Games, IBM, OGSi, 1GPN and others yet to be announced have recently joined the growing family of Vivox clients that already includes CCP Games, Icarus Studios and Linden Lab, further strengthening their position as the voice technology leader in the online game and virtual worlds industries.

Vivox is also co-sponsoring the Official Beer Blast on Wednesday, September 5, 4:30-6:30pm on the expo floor.  Exhibitor or Press badge required for entry.
