There's "A Shocking Turn of Events" in PS3 BioShock DLC

Posted by: Randy at 11/20/2008 10:04 PM - Comments (3)
The PS3's exclusive BioShock Add-On Game Content (put together by 2K Boston in conjunction with 2K Marin, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes) is available today for download from the PlayStation Network.  The package -- running a cool $9.99 -- includes new Trophies as well as the new Game Plus gameplay mode.  Two of the three new rooms cite "wits" as a deciding factor to get you through, while the third professes to be the most "grueling" challenge yet offered in the world of Rapture.
  • A Shocking Turn of Events -- A Little Sister is trapped atop a Ferris wheel in an undisclosed location in Rapture.  Using ony the tools and environment around them, players must use their wits to create electricity to power the Ferris wheel and bring the Little Sister to safety.
  • The I in Team -- Using limited resources, and an even more limited arsenal, players must negotiate traps and find a way to defeat a Big Daddy using their wits instead of raw firepower.
  • Worlds of Hurt -- Step up and take on the most grueling challenge offered in the world of Rapture.  Players must battle through eight rooms of Big Daddies, Splicers and the worst that Rapture has to offer.  Accumulate Adam, build an arsenal of Plasmids, Tonics and Weaponry, and fight through to rescue the Little Sister.
I think the variety thrown into these three scenarios rather quickly draws distinctions between Dead Space and BioShock.  Despite all the neat-o things Dead Space does, I think everyone is going to have their memory jogged as to who's still the big daddy of sci-fi thrillers.

Namco to obtains rights to create Dragon Ball Z games on all platforms

by: Chuck - - Comments (0)
Namco Bandai announced today that they now have the rights to punish gamers with Dragon Ball Z games on every platform for the next five years (starting in January 2010).  The rights were formerly held (at least in part) by Atari and it looks like Namco is going to be cranking out games at a fairly solid clip starting later this year.

This is certainly not good news for Atari as the Dragon Ball games were a major cornerstone of their company.

Here are a half dozen new screens from the Wii version of  Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.  They look about what you would expect and I'm guessing Capcom is going to be making a lot of folks happy with the game when it comes out.

Alpha Protocol coming out October 6th

by: John - - Comments (0)
I caught a glimpse of Alpha Protocol as well as Chuck and it looked pretty interesting. Well the game is officially coming out on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 6th. The spy genre seems to be pretty big at E3 this year and Obsidian's a great RPG developer so I'm looking forward to this one.

Unbound Saga haz bad guys, let me show them to you

by: Chuck - - Comments (0)
Here are a few shots of some of the bad guys you'll be pummeling in Unbound Saga on July 16th.  The classic beat 'em up was one of the games that surprised me at E3 and I think a lot of folks are going to enjoy the comic book style and sense of humor in the game.  You'll be able to download the game from the PlayStation Network for $14.99 in two weeks.

Darksiders story revealed

by: Chuck - - Comments (0)
Here's the first story trailer for Darksiders as well as more in-game footage from the game.  John and I really liked the story of how one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse was framed for the destruction of earth and how he's pitted against heaven and hell and I think people are going to dig the game when it comes out.

Fallout 3 half off on Steam this weekend

by: Chuck - - Comments (0)
Good news for the few folks who haven't picked up Fallout 3 yet, the game is going to be half off this weekend on Steam.  John has been rather enamored with the game and at half off you can't beat the price.

ARMA II Dev Diary 1 - Basic Controls

by: John - - Comments (0)
ARMA II's not just an FPS, it's a simulation. Here's the first of a few dev diaries detailing some of the features in the game. Watch and see how it's just a different breed. I particulary like that you can roll around in the grass the flatten it out so they don't get in the way of your aiming. There's no jumping in the game but you can climb over small obstacles.

Team Fortress 2 pen and paper RPG

by: John - - Comments (1)
We have a few pen and paper RPG gamers on the staff here at Gaming Nexus and we have a few Team Fortress 2 fans as well. There's a group of folks looking to merge the two as they are developing a Team Fortress 2 RPG. You can see some of the items available for you to grab and try. If I am not mistaken, there was a Doom pen and paper game right? Anyways, if you're interested, grab a few friends together and check it out! I'd like to know how a Spy would work in this scenario.

Nintendo Everything has scan of new FF DS game

by: John - - Comments (0)
Nintendo Everything has posted the scan for the new Square Enix Final Fantasy game called Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden. I can't read Japanese myself so I have no idea what it says. It looks like the usual FF setup to me but I was never a big FF gamer. I've been meaning to get into it and I am hoping for a good portable FF RPG so maybe this one will be it for me.

A normal guy can finish Splinter Cell Conviction in 12 hours

by: John - - Comments (0)
In an interview with Xbox 360 magazine, the creative director of Spinter Cell Conviction has revealed that if you are playing the game on normal difficulty you should be able to get through it in 12 hours. Their reasoning is they want anyone to be able to get through the entire game but if you think it's too easy, there will be a realistic mode where two bullets will kill you and the enemies will be tougher. I thought 12 hours were the norm these days with single player games but maybe I'm wrong. For a $60 game, I'd like a 15-20 hours worth of gameplay if it's a straight action game. For RPGs and adventure games I'm looking for a lot more of course.

Is Cataclysm the next World of Warcraft expansion?

by: John - - Comments (0)
Blizzard has trademarked Catayclysm and many are thinking that that's going to be the name or part of the name of the third expansion pack for World of Warcraft. I'm not a WoW player by any means so a lot of what I'm going to say is pretty greek to me but it seems the Cataclysm was a great event taking place 10,000 years ago that reshaped Azeroth. This event happened at the end of the War of the Ancients and the event is also known as the Great Sundering. Those that play WoW is that correct?

Screenshot for Quake Arena Arcade

by: John - - Comments (0)
Pi Studios is developing Quake Arena Arcade for the Xbox 360 and it will be distributed as Live Arcade title. Here's a screenshot of what one of the menus will look like. I think the web version of Quake Arena's popular so we'll see how a Live version will be. There's no release date yet though.

PC version of FUEL gets a launch trailer

by: Chuck - - Comments (0)
Here's the launch trailer for the PC version of FUEL that will probably have Dave drooling.  The trailer features the usual array of cars driving around dirt tracks and probably isn't going to do a lot for those who don't have the horses to run the game.

by: Chuck - - Comments (0)
Stardock has put together a nice pre-order package for those that pre-order the PC version of Red Faction:Guerrilla on Impulse.  If you pick up the game for the reasonable $39.99 they will toss in the first two Red Faction games for free.  The games are a little dated but will give you the full history of the game as well as showing you how far the GeoMod technology has come since Red Faction 2 came out. Jaffe showing off latest to Sony

by: John - - Comments (0)
There are some fans of David Jaffe, creator of Twisted Metal and God of War out there so here's to you. He's posted on NeoGaf saying he's off to show Sony his latest title in video form. It's a greenlite meeting meaning a bunch of folks are going to be showing off their goods for the Sony brass. So what game could it be?  I'm guessing it's going to be some completely new IP.

Maingear giving away two TWKR processors

by: John - - Comments (0)
If you don't know, the TWKR AMD processors are these super rare processors that are unlocked and have the ability to really overclock well. I'm talking about a good 100Mhz more air cooled and I've seen some go as high as 6+GHz on liquid nitrogen. These processors aren't for sale and are given to select few enthusiasts and media. Well Maingear's going and giving away two of these puppies. Details of how you can enter to win one can be found here.

1.0.1.2 Blood Bowl patch released

by: John - - Comments (0)
A new patch for Blood Bowl has been released with a small change in the change log: To enhance the performance of the game on your computer, the game resolution has been decreased. You can change that parameter later in the game options. Umm.. do we really need a patch to turn our setttings down so that the game runs a little faster? Hmph. That's a new one for me. You can grab it from Atomic Gamer.

Silverlight coming tthe 360, ads too

by: John - - Comments (0)
Well it looks like the Microsoft Flash competitor, Silverlight, is coming to the Xbox 360. You know what else is coming along for the ride? Ads. Yeah, more ads to fill up the dashboard for us to see. I deal with some of the ads using Microsft's Media Center and watching some of the Internet TV items. While I don't find it that annoying, I don't want to have to watch them if I am paying for my Xbox Live service. Now if you offer a free ad supported Gold membership route then I'm game. I don't want to see ads though if I am paying $50 a year. Do you think that if we get ads on the 360 we should pay for the Gold membership as well?

Blizzard responds to no LAN option for StarCraft II

by: John - - Comments (0)
With the recent announcement that there won't be a LAN option for StarCraft II, there have been some hot debate everywhere and Blizzard's forums. Blizzard does address some of them and you can read the collection of responses on BlizzBlues. I don't perceive piracy as an issue to not include LAN though as if they wanted to make sure you have a legitimate copy to play they could always do as one person suggest and do a quick authentication to the Blizzard servers before opening up LAN play. Of course, hackers could get by ths by doing a false positive to the program I guess. Still, a 'Craft game without LAN play just doesn't seem right. I personally want to see it as an option.

Origins 2009: Interview with the guys behind d20Pro

by: Nathan - - Comments (0)
We talked with them last year and during Origins 2009 the d20Pro guys were back and in the same spot tucked in the halls of the convention center. For those of your who aren't familiar with the software or if you can't remember a lot of the details that were covered last year listen to the interview with Dan Rivera for a refresher but if you want to get straight to the nitty gritty about the new developments with the software (hear it here first!) listen to the second interview with Matt Morton a head designer for d20Pro.

Sara and Mike: The other homeless people in the Sims 3 -- From the bottom of the Harts' fridge

by: Randy - - Comments (0)
[Sara, a single mother, and Mike, her son, are homeless and living in an abandoned park in The Sims 3.  You can backtrack to any of the first four entries (1, 2, 3, 4) or jump right into their continuing adventures.]

There are some conventions in The Sims 3 that are somewhat unavoidable.  One of them is that all adult Sims carry a cell phone, homeless or not.  Their monthly plans are free of charge and come packaged with unlimited anytime minutes.

Early in the morning, with hunger gnawing at Sara as it typically does, she pulls out her cell phone for the first time.  In rapid fire fashion -- bam bam bam -- Sara dials up the small handfull of people she knows in town.  She has only one thing to say to each of them before abruptly hanging up.
