In a follow up to
an earlier piece I posted about Target getting into the
Game Reservation business, I have received a response back from Target PR. According to the response, Target
will not be applying the $1 fee to the game purchase. That $1 goes solely to the purchase of the so-called “Collectible Reservation Card” and earns you the right to a $5 gift card if you pick up and pay for your game within seven days of the games release.
While this sounds like a good deal, there really are quite a few scenarios where the system could cause many issues. Most notably would be a delay in the game release that causes a customer to miss their seven-day reservation window to get their $5 gift card and earn back their $1 fee. Not to mention that the net “gift” to customer is only $4, not the marketed $5 that the program promises. Still, free money is free money….
