As the world waits anxiously to enter the MMO world of BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic, those clinging onto to Sony’s Star Wars MMO are preparing to bid their beloved game goodbye. Sony Online Entertainment has announced that it will be shutting down Star Wars: Galaxies on December 15, 2011. The game has been up and running since June 16, 2003.
The decision to end the run of the game lies primarily on the expiration of the contract between LucasArts and SOE. The licensing agreement between the two companies that made the game possible will expire in 2012.
