SW Game Expo grounded before it lifts off

More On: Southwest Video Game Expo
Late last year, we brought word that a new Video Game expo was announced for November of 2009 in the heart of Texas.  The Southwest Video Game Expo (SWGE) was supposed to be a combination of PAX and CES with gaming, consumer electronics and other technology on display in 400,000 sq ft of Dallas Convention Center space.   We also questioned whether it would be viable and who would partake with Thanksgiving the weekend after and both PAX and E3 fully stocked this year.   Well, today the other shoe dropped (Li-Fi half of the show was cancelled earlier) and the show has been postponed due to "a poor economy mixed with a large number of other expos for publishers to attend..." according to Don Jennings, President of Li-Fi.  Jennings mentioned that they would still like to bring a gaming show to Dallas in the future.  However, well established shows like PAX, E3 and CES are trying to keep themselves stocked with participants as we deal with a tough economy, so it may take a few years before the SWGE can get off the ground.
SOUTHWEST VIDEO GAME EXPO POSTPONED

Dallas - May 1, 2009 - The Southwest Video Game Expo (SWGE) today announced it would be postponed due economic reasons.  The show was to be the largest event of its kind in the Southwest showcasing new games for the holiday season from all the major publishers.  This expo was to be held at the Dallas Convention Center from November 20-22, 2009.  However with recent events forcing publishers to limit their budgets the management reconsidered SWGE's ability to put on the kind of show people would be excited to attend.  Li-Fi, the consumer electronic side of SWGE was cancelled previously.

"The management deeply regrets that the expo in Texas will not be happening in 2009 as we had planned," said Don Jennings, President of Li-Fi, Inc.  "A poor economy mixed with a large number of other expos for publishers to attend has meant our show didn't perform the way we had hoped it would.  We still hope someday to bring a large event like this to the Southwest, and are determined that it will be worth the wait."
