Panasonic slashing jobs and closing plants

More On:
Looks like the economic downturn has really hit the world's number one plasma maker hard. Panasonic announced today that they will be cutting 15,000 jobs and shutting 27 plants worldwide by the end of March 2010. You never want to see jobs get shed, but having followed the flat-panel development cycles for year now, I could never understand why Panasonic stayed so heavily invested in Plasmas. It appears that LCD, LED and eventually OLED will be the consumers choices going forward, but maybe that is just something here in the U.S. and not overseas.
