...because you will still need it if you want to play your current generation games. The Xbox ONE will not be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 software according to Microsoft’s Marc Whitten. In an interview with The Verge (via Polygon), Whitten noted that the systems new architecture makes it impossible for the current software to be run natively on the console. It is unknown if streaming measures will be taken in the future to address this situation, much like Sony is doing with the PlayStation 4.
