Did Microsoft use someone else's footage in the Forza 4 VGA trailer? Updated - no they didn't

by: Chuck -
Jalopnik has posted an article that indicates that Microsoft did not own all of the footage they used in the Forza 4 trailer they debuted at the VGA's over the weekend.  Here's the trailer in question:

While most of the footage belongs to Microsoft it does look like they used some footage without permission which is kind of a bad thing (because stealing is bad).

We reached out to Microsoft for comment and got the following statement:

We are aware of the claims made around unlicensed footage from “Turn 9” and are investigating the matter. We have nothing further to share at this time.

We'll let you know more when we know more.

Update (Chuck) - It turns out Microsoft did have all the right permissions, here's the official statement:

After investigating we can confirm that these claims are false and that all footage featured in the “Forza Motorsport 4” announcement trailer is appropriately licensed

There you have it, no wrong doing on the part of Microsoft.  Journalism FTW
