Deadly Creatures First Impressions

More On: Deadly Creatures
I've had THQ's arachnid survival-of-the-fittest adventure, Deadly Creatures, for about a week now and I'm a lot more impressed than I expected to be. Developer Rainbow Studios put a lot of love into the game and you can tell they really cared about the project--this isn't another cheap Wii churn out.  The visuals are slick and realistic for a Wii game and all of the creatures have uncannily realistic animations.  Both the Scorpion and Tarantula are fully playable, and the swift, precise way they move reminded me just how brutal the bug world is.  There are a few clipping glitches and some framerate studder but so far the presentation is great and refreshginly different.

The voice work by Dennis Hopper and Billy Bob Thornton is top notch and keeps the overlaying plot interesting, but so far there isn't enough of it.  Hopefully the game's two human leads will show up more in the upcoming levels.  I'm only about four levels in and already I've picked up a number of upgrades so I'm sure there's a lot more content to get through.  Overall I'm very happy with Deadly Creatures and barring any unforseen game-breaking glitches, I'd say this one is a solid buy.  I'll have a full review done in about a week so stayed tuned.
