Breakers Collection brings more 2D fighting from the past

More On: Breakers Collection

Back when SNK and Neo-Geo was trying to wrestle away the fighting crown that was gripped by Street Fighter II, they were releasing fighting titles left and right. Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, and the The King of Fighters 96' were all pulling their own weight at the time, and the competition was thick. A company name Visco released Breakers. It was your typical Street Fighter clone, with just 8 characters. It did decent in Arcades, but never saw a home release. It's sequel, Breakers Revenge, was typically the same game, with one added character, and the playable SNK HELL boss. Now these games are both back, thanks to QUbyte Interactive, and out on pretty much everything.

Every character has their own special moves, and techniques. And you can put these moves on the sides of your 4:3 screen, if you so choose. You're still going to lose. Because the game wants that. Still here are the same graphics, characters, and the like, but there have been some quality of life enhancements added. There are filters, and you can stretch the screen to 16:9 (don't). The cool thing about this collection is that the online mode feels built from the ground up. You can create and join lobbies. You can fight in any region. You can even choose who you fight online by setting different parameters. Ranked match and Casual match are here, but you can also filter out people with less than favorable connections, wi-fi or wired connections, and a whole slew of different options. Of course, it's a fighting game in 2022, so that sweet sweet rollback netcode is here with full cross play, so you can play anyone, anywhere, on any system.

The arcade mode is still intact, and so is the very tough, very cheap computer player. In a matter of minutes, you can be on the ground, wondering if you're just not cut out for a game like this. Breakers Revenge even adds a team mode, so you can have a little 3 on 3. If you find yourself getting beat up too much, there is a full fledged training mode. They've also thrown a fan gallery into the game, just because there's people out there who have called for this game to be released for a while now. So, now that you're done here, go and get beat down by people who know this game existed, even if you didn't. It's out right now.
